Brian E. Wood (Managing Funeral Director) :
Brian was raised on a family farm outside of Owen Sound and attended Centre Grey District High School in Markdale, Ontario. He graduated from the funeral service programme conducted at Banting Institution of the University of Toronto in 1966. Since that time, Brian has worked at area Funeral Homes on a full and part time basis for his entire working career. Brian and his family owned a working family farm on the edge of Owen Sound, and he was an active member of the farming community. He is the past president of the Sydenham Agriculture Society and also a past director of the Owen Sound Agriculture Society for many years as well as involved in municipal politics for nine years. Brian is married to Betty Lynn and they have two children. Laura is a secondary teacher in Hamilton and also helps in the funeral home. Laura is married to Graeme Fraser, and they have one daughter, Abigail. Nathan lives in Owen Sound and works at the funeral home as a Funeral Director. Brian is a long time member of Rockcliffe Gospel Temple in Owen Sound.
Brian passionately believes in focussing on the “service” aspects and details of his funeral business. He and his family strive to provide a service that is both personal and genuine, to meet the many needs of all families.
Nathan Wood (Licensed Funeral Director) :
Nathan was born in Owen Sound and raised on the family farm in Sydenham Township. He attended Sydenham and Strathcona public schools and then graduated from grade thirteen at the O.S.C.V.I. in 1996. Following high school he worked for two years as a lifeguard at Storybook Park. In the late nineties he moved to London, Ontario. In London, he worked at Joe Kool’s restaurant for a few years while he was achieving his pilot’s licence. He then moved to Nelson, British Columbia where he taught snowboarding for a season at Whitewater Resort. Upon his return to Ontario he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue his Funeral Director’s Licence. In 2004 he attended Humber College in the Funeral Service Education Program. He graduated in 2006 with honours after completing his apprenticeship at the Arthur Funeral Home and Barton & Kiteley Funeral Homes & Cremation Centres in Sault Ste. Marie. He then went on to work in the Soo for another year before returning home to work with his family at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound. Nathan enjoys flying, teaching snowboarding and just about anything to do with being outdoors. Nathan is currently a part of the Owen Sound community, and is honored to help those in their time of need.
Don Wilson (Licensed Funeral Director):
Don was born in Owen Sound and then moved to Belleville where he attended public and high school. His family moved to Meaford in 1960 where he graduated from Meaford High School. Don attended the Canadian School of Embalming and the University of Toronto and graduated in 1963. Don married Marigay Cook in 1964 and together they had two children, Heather and Brent. They are the proud grandparents of Maggie and Hanna. Don purchased the Gardiner Funeral Home in Meaford in 1969 where he and his son Brent still actively operate it as the Gardiner-Wilson Funeral Home. Don is a past president of the Meaford Kinsmen Club and the Meaford K-40 Club. He is past master of Pythagoras Masonic Lodge in Meaford. He is a member of Rameses Shrine Club and an active member of the Meaford United Church where his wife is the choir director. Marigay is also the director of the Meaford Goldenaires Ladies Choir. Don has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 25 years and a former member of the Meaford General Hospital Board. Don is the Deputy-Chief of the Meaford Fire Department and has been an active firefighter of 35 years. Don is very proud to be a partner in the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home.
Brent Wilson (Licensed Funeral Director):
Brent was born in Meaford where he attended both primary and secondary school. Brent graduated from the University of Windsor with a Batchelor of Arts Degree in 1995. He attended and graduated from Humber College in the Funeral Service Education Course in 1998. Brent has been involved in the funeral service all of his life as he was a Funeral Director's son. He is married to Shanda Welstead and has one daughter, Hanna. He is a piper in the Grey County Highlanders Pipes and Drums and plays the bag pipes at many funerals and weddings. Brent enjoys the outdoors and sports of all kinds. He has been a volunteer firefighter for over six years and is a member of the Rob Roy Trout Club. Brent chairs the stream rehabilitation committee along with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Trout Unlimited. Brent is looking forward to serving the people of Owen Sound and surrounding area as a Funeral Director and caregiver.
Betty grew up in the Owen Sound area and attended Springmount Public School and the O.S.C.V.I. She is a retired Medical Laboratory Technologist specializing in hematology at the Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound site. Betty is an active member of the Rockcliffe Gospel Temple where she taught Sunday School for many years. Betty's interests includes: attending Little Theatre, stain glass, decorating and other crafts. Betty is a caring and active member of the family funeral business. She assists during visitations and funerals on a regular basis.
Joan is the office administrator and an active part of our team. She does all the office and administration work as well as assisting in visitations and funerals. Joan has lived all her life in Owen Sound and area, is widowed with two sons, Jeff & Andy and very proud grandma of Sarah. She graduated from St. Mary's School and the O.S.C.V.I. and is active in St. Mary's Church. She managed her late husband Wayne's crane business for 21 years until it was sold in 2001. Joan is a very understanding, caring and compassionate person and an asset to our company.
Jean is an active part of our team, and has been with us since we opened in 2004. She assists with visitations and funerals, helping with a variety of tasks. Jean married Paul in 1963, they have three sons; David, Kenneth (deceased 1983) and Kevin. Jean is a very proud grandmother to Garrett, Nikki, Kendra and Cole. Jean worked from home where she raised her children and ran a daycare for over 30 years. Jean helped raise many children over the years and is proud of all their accomplishments. She also worked in retail before coming to work at our funeral home. Jean's many interests include: crafts, crochet, reading and spending quality time with her grandchildren either at home or at their summer camp. Jean has a great deal of compassion and cares deeply about her work. She is a valuable member and an asset to our team.
